  • The leaf blowers are used to blow away leaves and make a firebreak, but also to physically push the fire backwards into the already burned area and thus put it out.<br /> <br /> There is also a photo of one of our people setting a backfire with a “fire-dripper", which is then blown with the leaf blowers into the main fire.<br /> <br /> Most of the firefighting consists of preparing firebreaks before the main fire arrives, and then monitoring the firebreak, using backpack water pumps or “abafadores” (a large rubber square on a handle, used to beat down flames and deprive them of oxygen) to put out any spot fires that jump the firebreak.<br /> <br /> ©Instituto Araguaia
