  • The border between the Serengeti Ecosystem and the cultural landscape outside is very clear and visible from a plane. This photo is taken just after some a rain shower. It is obvious that the protected area absorbed the water well, keeping it in the system. On the side affected by human activities, it is very clear that the water doesn’t get absorbed properly, nutrients are flushed away as the water runs off. Moreover, when the dry season comes, the human affected areas are likely to have less ground water and more likely to suffer from droughts. Ikorongo Game Reserve, Tanzania. © Daniel Rosengren / FZS

  • FZS supports communities around their project areas in various ways. Here a beekeeper is blowing smoke on a beehive (one of many donated by FZS) to calm down the bees. Honey production is an example of a good eco friendly way to make a living around protected areas. Photographed near Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. © Daniel Rosengren / FZS
