  • Coal mining is very common on Sumatra and a big contributor to deforestation. This industry is very corrupt, mining companies have a responsibility to restore areas after mining is done. However, they avoid this by constantly starting small mining companies that do the mining, then make them go bankrupt when it’s done. Then they can’t restore the area anymore.
