  • A local Amerindian man (George Tancredo) in Nappi village, near Kanuku Mountains Protected Area, Guyana. He uses the Balata latex from the Bulletwood tree that grows in the KMPA to form sculptures of mostly local animals. FZS supports him as it is a way for locals to find a livelihood from the KMPA that is sustainable and doesn’t harm it. © Daniel Rosengren / FZS
  • A tree called Balata or Bulletwood (because of its extremely hard wood) growing in the forests of Guyana. Its latex is harvested in a similar fashion as the rubber trees and used to be used in the production of golf balls. Today, the latex is not in high demand, but FZS supports local artsits using the latex for sculptures sold to tourists. This way locals can make a living from the forest without destroying it. On this tree old scars from the harvest can be seen. Kanuku Mountains Protected Area, Guyana. © Daniel Rosengren / FZS
